Categories of UAE Entry
Before booking your trip to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, it is essential to identify which category your nationality falls into under UAE immigration policy:
1. GCC Citizens (Exempt)
Citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council countries (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar) do not require a visa and can enter using their national ID card or passport.
2. Free Visa on Arrival (30-day or 90-day)
Holders of passports from eligible countries receive a free visa stamp upon landing at UAE international airports. Common eligible nationalities include:
- 30-day on arrival: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Singapore.
- 90-day on arrival: Most European Union / Schengen member states, Argentina, and Brazil.
3. Advance Tourist eVisa Required
Citizens of countries not eligible for visa-on-arrival must obtain an approved entry permit before boarding their flight. This includes nationals from India, Pakistan, Nigeria, the Philippines, and several other countries.
Special Rule for Indian Passport Holders
Indian nationals holding a valid US visitor visa/green card, UK residence permit, or EU residence visa valid for at least 6 months can obtain a 14-day visa on arrival at UAE ports of entry.
